What Makes Aerogel Insulation The Insulator It Is?
Aerogel insulation is the insulator that makes some pretty impressive claims. It is said that this material is not only capable of providing at least a 40% increase in the highest R-value rating, but it also is everything you want it to be. It is environmentally and ecologically responsible. It is not damaged by water. It will not develop mould. It cannot age like other insulators.
While these claims are pretty hefty claims, the Guinness Book of Records has literally about 20
entries
devoted to first time wonders found in an insulator. The actual thickness of the strips is very slim and the installation is relatively easy. Some of the Aerogel insulation that you will find will be a bit stiffer than others. Thus, ease of installation may very well depend on the particular manufacturer. This happens to be one of the insulation creations of
NASA
, which makes insulating factors as strong as possible in order to prevent astronauts from freezing to death whilst in space. The US Department of Energy has been able to test the claims of Aerogel insulation. The end result is that it works extremely well at keeping temperatures separated. In fact, there are tests that have proven the insulating factor can be used on almost any type of surface and that surface will remain at a constant temperature despite the application of excessive heat and cold. It works through very simple peel off and stick technology. During the construction process the strips are applied to the studs and the steel frames of the building under construction. The backing is peeled away to reveal a surface of sticky adhesive that will not break down over time. This is how the application is done. It is not typically done after the drywall has been hung. It's important that builders know this. You will need to inform the builder that the preference for the material should be honored at the start of the project. Waiting until after the drywall is hung will simply create excessive problems for you and your insulation needs. While the builder may very well take down the drywall in order to appease this request, you will end up paying for the time devoted to the issue. If it sounds too good to be true, we were always warned that it probably is. Yet every now and then the technology that is developed by industry as a requirement for extreme conditions, reveals something new and improved for the home life as well. By seeing clearly the variables that make up the product, this will be one of the few instances where being too good to be true just really doesn't exist. NASA has made numerous insulations before this. Aerogel insulation is one that is so remarkable that there is no reason not to use it. The cost of the insulation may or may not be within your budget but it is definitely worth taking the time to check it out. Should you decide to use it, you can be assured it will do the job.
